The Central Park Triathlon is a fund raiser for the New York City - Department of Parks & Recreation. Proceeds from the event go to support ongoing recreation programs sponsored by NYC - Parks & Recreation.

The following rules and regulations have been designed for your personal safety and enjoyment. Failure to comply with these rules will result in penalties and/or disqualification.
Instructions at the pre-race briefing supersede any or all of the following rules..

IMPORTANT: NO NUMBERS WILL BE ISSUED WITHOUT PHOTO ID! .
You must know your race/bib number before getting in line for race packet pick up. If you don't know your number, go to Lin-Mark.com check the bib number list for this event. There will be an alphabetical list of entrants posted near registration where you may also look uo your bib number.

Payment accepted online by credit card only - No mail-in entries accepted!

- Race management has authority to change race course and format, check-in and start times.
- No entrants under 18 years of age. 
- It is prohibited to sell your number or for someone to compete in your place.

Pre-Race Day - Saturday
5:30 - 7:00 pm - Check-in/packet pick up (optional) at Lasker Pool
Race Day - Sunday
6:00 - 7:10 am. - Check-in/packet pick up. Pick up timing chip.
7:15 am. - Pre-race briefing. No race packets saved after 7:15 am.
7:30 am - Start of Triathlon (rain or shine)
10:30 am - Course closes, awards, refreshments

AWARDS: 1st, 2nd, 3rd overall male and female in 5-year groups; 18 - 70+ (men), 18 - 60+ (women).

FIELD: Limited to first 300 applicants.
Sign up early! This race fills up by April each year!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!: Is there someone you know who could help while you're competing? Call Race Director, Nancy Klitsner, at Parks & Recreation - 212-447-2020 ext. 306 from 9:00-4:00 and leave a message with their name and confirm that they will be at the race. Volunteers will receive a souvenir T-shirt and sincere thanks from all competitors.

SWIM: Fifteen lanes will be set up for lap swimming in Lasker Pool.  Swimmers will go off in 4 waves of 75 (5 persons/lane x 15 lanes per wave). 
Note: The cut off time for the 1/4 mile swim is 15 minutes. 

If you fail to start the third lap within 10 minutes of your start time, you will be asked to leave the  pool and turn in your timing chip prior to be allowed to continue the race.

- Wet suits are not allowed in the pool.
- Flip (racing) turns are not allowed. If you do a flip turn you will receive a two minute penalty for each flip turn.
- Running or  "dolphining" in the water will result in a 4 minute penalty

BIKE COURSE: The 12 mile bike course consists of two loops of Central Park. Bikers will ride North from the transition area and circle the park in a counter-clockwise direction. Bikers must STAY in the middle and right hand lanes at ALL times and may not enter the runners (left) lane under ANY ircumstances!
Bikers must slow down, use caution and be prepared to stop when entering the transition area or when cycling on the narrow paths leading to and from the pool area.
- Contestants are individually responsible for repair/maintenance of their bike.
- Bicycles placed on the wrong rack in the transition area will be removed.

CENTRAL PARK ALERT! The course is closed to cars but not to pedestrians, joggers, cyclists, skaters, etc. While biking, competitors must be aware and considerate of non-competitors who will also be sharing the Park roads with competitors. You do not have priority over other users of Central Park because you are competing in this event.

RECREATION LANE: The running/recreation lane, marked off with a solid double white line, is OFF LIMITS to cyclists. Competitors cycling in the recreation lane will be penalized two (2) minutes for each infraction.

RUN COURSE: The 3 mile run is on the inner roadway of Central Park. Use caution and listen to the course marshals when starting the run. Runners leave the pool area and follow West Drive for 1.5 miles before turning around a large green cone and running back to the finish line at Lasker Pool.

TRANSITION AREA: Located at Lasker Pool. No friends, family or children will be allowed in pool area.  Bicycles must be placed on assigned racks corresponding to race number. NO riding in the transition area or past the "DISMOUNT" signs at the entrance to the transition area. Bikes and equipment may be removed from the pool area upon showing corresponding run and bike numbers to security personnel. 

DRAFTING RULES: You must maintain a distance of at least three bike lengths from the bike in front of you! You may not be closer than this distance for any period exceeding 15 seconds. If you are, you will be assessed a two minute penalty for each violation.

HELMETS: Penalties will be assessed if cycling helmets are not positively secured with chin strap BEFORE entering/exiting the transition area. Helmets must be ANSI, SNELL or USCF approved.

RACE NUMBERS/ELECTRONIC TIMING:

On the morning of the race,  you will pick up an electronic timing  chip that corresponds to your assigned bib number. This chip must be attached with the velcro strap to your ankle.and must remain attached throughout the entire event.
You cannot use any chip other than the one that is assigned to you on the morning of the race. Wearing any other chip or wearing multiple chips could lead to errors in overall timing and your disqualification.
After you finish the event, you must remove the chip and drop it in the collection bin at the end of the timing chute.
If you lose your chip during the race or fail to turn it in after you cross the finish line,
you will be charged $75 for the lost chip. If you paid for the race using a credit card, your card will be charged automatically. Others will be sent an invoice.
Your bib number must be attached to the FRONT of your shirt (or race belt) during the entire race .
The 2-sided vinyl (adhesive-backed) bike frame number must be attached to the front of the top tube of your bicycle and for security reasons may not be removed until you leave the leave the transition area. 
Check the label affixed to your race number for correct information regarding your name, age and sex.
 Notify officials prior to the race of any mistakes!

RESULTS: Results will be posted on the New York Triathlon web site www.NYTRI.org.

POST-RACE: Award winners must be present at the post-race awards ceremony to claim their prize. 

PARKING: Central Park is closed to vehicular traffic on weekends. Recommended parking is on 5th Avenue, from 104th Street to 90th Street and along cross Streets.

RACE VIOLATIONS & PENALTIES:
2 Minute Penalties
- Bicycle not on assigned bike rack.
- Race bib is not clearly visible at ALL times while biking or running.
- Drafting or "pack riding" violation.
- Accepting outside assistance or being paced by non-competitor.
- Unsecured helmet chin strap leaving/entering transition area.
Disqualification
- Verbal abuse of race officials, staff and/or volunteers.

Wearing headphones during any portion of race.
- Biking in joggers/runners lane.
- Riding without an approved biking helmet.

WAVE/LANE ASSIGNMENTS BASED ON RACE NUMBER
Example: Number 122 is in wave 2 and lane 10.
